Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Lake George Historical Association Museum for its free admission, engaging exhibits, and the fascinating history it preserves. The historic courthouse building and its former jail cells are standout features, often highlighted as a unique and memorable part of the experience. The knowledgeable staff and the excellent bookstore further enhance the visit, making it a highly recommended stop for anyone interested in local history.
"This place is SO AWESOME. My son is homeschooled and we were doing the walking history tour that the Lake George Historical Association created (highly recommend, you can find a printable pdf on their website and copies in the courthouse/museum). We stopped here because 1) it was one of the places my son was interested in seeing on the tour and 2) I was doing and adventure lab and the courthouse was part of it and I’m so glad we did! I didn’t realize before going in that it was a museum, and a super cool one at that! The museum has all kinds of exhibits about various things and a multitude of historical articles and artifacts relating to various parts of Lake George’s history. They even have a cool scavenger hunt you can do while checking out the museum. The old jail cells (and stories about them being haunted) are an obvious highlight which I’m sure other reviewers have already mentioned. There’s so much more to see besides that though! The staff is super friendly and informative and the bookstore is AWESOME! They offer tours and even ghost tours! This is such a great historical resource. I can’t say enough good things about it. Definitely check it out! It’s one of my favorite things we’ve done in Lake George so far and we visit fairly often as we only live a couple hours away. Also do their walking historical tour! Some cool geocachers in LG have made it so you can do the tour and complete several adventure labs/find some geocaches nearby (or at) many of the locations which makes it all the more awesome!"

"The Lake George Historical Association Museum is a great little museum in the village of Lake George. Located on Canada Street the museum offers a nice change of pace from some of the other tourist sites of Lake George. Best of all it is free of charge!
The museum is located in a historic courthouse. Some of the unique artifacts in the museum include an Iroquois canoe, Native American arrowheads, a cannonball from the French and Indian War, historic rowboats, paintings of Lake George, Georgi the Lake Monster, and perhaps best of all jail cells going back to the 1840's! The museum offers plenty of other novelties that cannot be seen anywhere else. All together there are about five rooms of different displays. A scavenger hunt is offered for all ages in the museum to help you through it. There is a bookstore located in the museum as well, which has many books on the Lake George area. If you're visiting downtown Lake George you should stop here. It adds so much to the village of Lake George."
