"A free garden with various local succulents and trees. We appreciated it was small and free since we visited about noon and it was getting very hot. Several beautiful peacocks live there too."

"This place was pretty darn fun. Especially considering that it's commingled among the parking lot and library. Tons of cacti, trees, plants and even wildlife like peacocks. It was 100 degrees when I went, but there was shade from the trees. There was a lot of peacock feces though.... haha. It was nice I do reccomend! One of the best landscaped libraries I've ever seen. Pictures don't really do it justice in my opinion."

The Art of Xeriscaping
Beyond water conservation, xeriscaping offers numerous environmental benefits. By reducing reliance on thirsty plants, it lessens the strain on municipal water supplies, a critical concern in regions like Arizona. Furthermore, native and adapted plants often require less maintenance, reducing the need for fertilizers and pesticides, which can harm local ecosystems. The garden serves as an educational hub, demonstrating these practices and inspiring visitors to adopt similar water-wise strategies in their own yards.
Visitors can learn about different xeriscaping techniques by observing the garden's layout and plant groupings. Informational signage often explains the benefits of specific plant choices and water-saving methods. This hands-on approach allows people to see firsthand how a beautiful, functional landscape can be created with a focus on sustainability. It's a practical demonstration of how to create a thriving desert garden that is both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally responsible.
A Haven for Wildlife: The Peacocks
The presence of peacocks contributes to the garden's ecosystem, though it also means visitors should be mindful of their surroundings. While generally docile, they are wild animals, and it's important to observe them from a respectful distance. Some reviews mention the presence of peacock droppings, which is a natural aspect of sharing the space with wildlife. This is a small consideration for the joy of seeing these stunning birds up close.
For photographers and nature lovers, the peacocks offer exceptional opportunities for unique shots. Capturing their vibrant colors against the backdrop of desert plants can result in truly memorable images. The Glendale Xeriscape Garden provides a rare chance to see these exotic birds in a beautiful, naturalistic setting, making it a memorable part of the visitor experience.
