What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Old Corkscrew Golf Club is lauded for its challenging Jack Nicklaus-designed layout and beautiful setting within a natural preserve. Golfers appreciate the pristine fairways and well-maintained practice facilities. However, some reviews mention inconsistent green conditions and a high rack rate during peak season, though summer rates offer better value.
"Incredible course layout through well groomed Florida landscape. The greens are back in playable shape with only minor repair remaining. Sand traps were not groomed but there was 5"+ of rain in the last 24 hours (you shouldn't be in the traps anyway). Greens not quite rolling as smooth as they once were, but considering how wonderful this course is, play it now before it closes in May 2026 for remodeling."

"Old Corkscrew Golf Course is the best public golf I’ve found in Southwest Florida for under $200. Sure, there’s Saltleaf (Raptor Bay), but who wants to spend $500 a round on a course that isn’t even a PGA Tour venue? If I’m paying that, I’d rather play something like Innisbrook’s Copperhead—fantastic and worth the price. For value and pure golf, Old Corkscrew is the pick.
The course is very challenging in the best way. Fairways are fast and contoured correctly. There’s a ton of perfectly placed water that really makes you think off the tee. The bunkers are amazing—soft white sand that’s consistently fluffy all the way through, not just a few inches on top with hardpan underneath.
The only knock on our visit last February was the greens. A few had fungus, but the ones that didn’t rolled true and at about a 9–10 of 13 in speed. Even with that, the overall experience still topped every other public course I’ve played in Florida.
Practice facilities are outstanding. The driving range is free (love that), there’s a high green for bunker and chipping work, and two putting greens right by the range. The practice greens roll true and matched the course speed at 9–10, which I always appreciate—nothing better than practice surfaces that mirror the course.
We’ll be back. What a beautiful, demanding, and well-kept course."

"Plenty of good courses around, but Old Corkscrew is my go-to. Built really well, always maintained, great paths, and a good challenge. Being out in a preserve makes it feel more relaxed as your golfing through the woods instead of lined with townhomes. Staff is friendly and makes it easy to enjoy the day.”"

In-depth insights and expert knowledge
The Jack Nicklaus Design Philosophy
The layout is a core, stand-alone golf experience, meaning it's set within a preserve with no homes lining the fairways. This creates a more immersive and tranquil atmosphere, allowing golfers to focus on the game and the natural surroundings. The course plays long, especially from the championship tees, measuring around 7,400 yards, making it a true test for even the most accomplished players. The 'old corkscrew golf club scorecard' reflects this challenge, with a par of 72 and significant yardage.
Reviewers consistently praise the course's layout and the natural beauty of the preserve. The absence of residential development enhances the feeling of a secluded golfing retreat. This design philosophy ensures that Old Corkscrew offers a unique and memorable golfing experience that stands out in the competitive Florida golf scene. :golfcourse: :deciduoustree:
Navigating the Greens and Bunkers
The sand traps, or bunkers, are also noteworthy. They are consistently described as having soft, white sand that is fluffy all the way through, avoiding the hardpan often found underneath a thin top layer. This makes them challenging to escape but also a visually appealing part of the course's aesthetic. As one reviewer humorously noted, 'you shouldn't be in the traps anyway,' highlighting the importance of accurate ball striking to avoid them. The combination of these challenging greens and well-maintained bunkers contributes significantly to the course's reputation as a demanding yet rewarding play. :sand_wedge:
Value and Off-Season Play
Playing during the summer heat might not be for everyone, but the reduced 'old corkscrew green fees' make it an attractive option for those who can tolerate the conditions. The course is known to be well-maintained year-round, ensuring a quality experience regardless of the season. The club also offers annual memberships for those who frequent the area and wish to play more often, providing access to 'old corkscrew golf club membership' benefits. :calendar:
