What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Eagle Lake for its breathtaking, serene beauty, often describing it as a "Bob Ross painting." The hike is considered rewarding, with many recommending an early start to avoid crowds and enjoy the peaceful morning atmosphere. While generally manageable, some note the elevation and steep sections can be challenging for very young children.
"This hike was recommended to us by a local tour guide. He made one recommendation, go early! Like most recreational spots in Tahoe parking fills up. We made our way to the parking lot on a Monday around 8:30am. We were lucky to get the last open spot. On the weekends I'd go much earlier. Our initial thought was to hike to the falls and back. Reaching the falls was relatively easy and a little underwhelming so we continued on up the trail to Eagle Lake. You are hiking at around 6000 feet elevation making air a little sparse... The hike isn't very difficult and there are plenty of spacious areas to rest as needed. On our hike we saw everyone from toddlers to senior citizens making the trek. Reaching the lake made the trip worth every deep breath and step. For a leisurely hike and some time to relax at the lake I'd plan for a couple hours. I'd also highly recommend this hike! Oh and I think we saw a bear track... check out my photos."

"Breathtaking views. Eagle Lake in the morning was very peaceful and quiet with no one around. A water circle with a single duck swimming towards us was clearly drawn on the water. It was a great hike to breathe in the crisp fresh morning air and take in the scenery."

"I cannot tell you how to live your life, but I can tell you this trail is worth the hike.
This trail is worth the $5 parking. Which is cash only btw because there's no ranger on duty if you go early so its an honor system where you fill out a slip and place the money in a safety box. If you don't have the cash its certainly worth the risk to park alongside the road or risk getting a ticket (sans paying the fee).
The trail is worth getting lost. Well it's hard to get lost with plenty of signs and paved trails BUT you may feel like the lake doesn't exist. Just follow the signs that mention the lake NOT the loop. Its not a far walk (1.5/2 miles). You may feel like you are getting lost but keep going!
Once there the view is straight from a Bob Ross painting, serene and majestic. It's not a heavily populated trail (we went early on Monday morning so that could of been the reason for the emptiness) and it is a great workout. I wouldn't recommend brining small children because there's a bit of climbing and steep hills. It isn't difficult but could be challenging for those with tiny legs.
Overall beautiful view, bring a camera and enjoy!"
