What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Claytor Lake State Park for its beautiful, tranquil lake setting and well-maintained facilities, particularly the sandy beach and scenic trails. The park offers a serene escape with good camping amenities. However, some note that it can be pricier than other state parks, especially for out-of-state guests.
"This park was beautiful! Our RV site, D26, was level & spacious with water & electricity. The area is treed & has just enough sun & sky to enjoy the warmth of the day or the stars at night. The park is clean & access to the lake is close. The lake itself is gorgeous with a lovely, good-sized, sandy beach marked off for swimming. We only stayed one night & we wished we had stayed much longer, mostly for the tranquility & to be able to swim in the lake (which was probably about 70-75 degrees). I highly recommend this park!"

"This is a very nice state park. 😀 Easy access from the highway, unlike most state parks which are 20 mi down country roads after you exit....🤦🏻♂️Well manicured. Great trails with excellent signage.🥾
This is my first experience in a Virginia State Park.
It's quite pricey, more than any other state park I have visited 🧐
And you will pay more to visit from out of state 🫣"

"This is a beautiful park. We just went to walk around after dinner. It's peaceful and the lake was calm; no crazy boating theatrics to watch. Met a few people walking their dogs.
It looks like a great place to stay with enough room to roam. Or a nice place for a weekend picnic... They have a few gazebos at the lakes edge complete with tables and grill. (May have to reserve these.)"
