Replying to @evie This is the most THRILLING hike in North Carolina and it’s conveniently located right off the Blue Ridge parkway! You’ll start at the Boone Fork Parking area and take Tanawha Trail to the Boone Scout Trail where you’ll start quickly climbing to the top of Grandfather Mountain. Reviews Summary

Visitors appreciate the well-shaded, easy 1-mile trail at Fork Branch Nature Preserve, making it a pleasant spot for dog walking and a quick nature escape. However, the extremely limited parking and confusing, potentially costly seasonal entry fee system are significant drawbacks for many.

"A well shaded 1.2 mile trail. This trail is pet friendly and nuisance bags are usually available though not always used. There is a seasonal fee to enter."

"To start this is a very clean & shaded park. We are from out of town and just wanted a shaded place to walk our dog. The trail is 1 mile long. We saw owls and lightning bugs. Nice clear, flat path. It didn't seem like there was any elevation change so a very easy walk. Even in the 90 degree weather, it felt cooler. There is no water in the little creek, but it's still very nice. $8 for out of state and $4 for Deleware residents. I really felt the price was a high for a 1 mile path even though it's a nice path. We will look for a new path. It did have a portapotty."

Kelly Doering

"Love this place. It's a nice one mile walk through the woods on a gravel path. I just wish there was more parking. There's like three parking spots and if they're full, you're screwed until someone leaves lol. It does require a state park pass to use or you have to pay a fee each time you use the trail."

Navigating Fees and Parking Hassles

Fork Branch Nature Preserve presents a unique challenge for visitors regarding fees and parking. From March 1st to November 30th, an entry fee is enforced: $4 for Delaware residents and $8 for out-of-state vehicles. However, the payment system is notoriously unclear, with small signs and a lack of digital kiosks, leading some visitors to receive hefty $35 tickets. To avoid this, either visit during the free off-season (December 1st to February 29th) or meticulously understand the payment process upon arrival. Reddit

Compounding the entry issues is the severely limited parking. With only a handful of spots, arriving early, especially on weekends or during peak times, is crucial. If the lot is full, you might be out of luck unless someone leaves. This scarcity of parking, combined with the confusing fee structure, means planning your visit carefully is key to a stress-free experience. Reddit
