What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Mount Minsi is lauded as a fantastic hiking spot with breathtaking views of the Delaware Water Gap, making the challenging, rocky terrain well worth the effort. Hikers appreciate the segment of the Appalachian Trail and the scenic rhododendron tunnel. However, limited parking and steep, rugged paths require careful preparation.
"Fantastic Hiking spot. The parking by the Appalachian Trail + Lenape Lake only has about 12 parking spots. I went at 1pm on a Monday afternoon and half the spots were still open.
It took me exactly 2 hours from the start to the top of Mount Minsi. Then 1hr and 15min to get back.
I took the same path up and down instead of doing the loop. It was still 4.5 miles and took a little over 3 hours round trip to complete.
It was a really enjoyable trail, lots of rocks which would would make the hike extremely dangerous.
There's also some pretty steep sections of rock steps. Like going up 10-20 flights of stairs in some sections.
Be prepared for rugged, rocky Terrain."

Solo Trekking Mt. Minsi & Lessons from the Trail. ###
Just completed another rocky terrain trek—this time at Mt. Minsi, and it was a truly rewarding experience. Nestled in the Delaware Water Gap, Mt. Minsi lies on the Pennsylvania side, directly across from Mt. Tammany, which marked my very first trekking adventure on the New Jersey side.
Compared to Mt. Tammany, Mt. Minsi is less rugged, with a gradual elevation gain that makes it an excellent choice for beginners.
###Gear Tip###
The trail features rocky terrain and steep sections, so I highly recommend wearing hiking boots (not just trail or walking shoes) and using trekking poles for added support and stability.

Parking Tips###
Parking is limited and tends to fill up quickly:
- The main lot accommodates approximately 25 cars.
- A secondary lot nearby offers space for about 10 more vehicles.
- There are no restrooms at the trailhead, so it's best to stop at the Welcome Center beforehand if needed.
###Trail Etiquette Reminder###
One valuable lesson: never cut off or disrupt the momentum of hikers going uphill. Uphill trekkers often rely on rhythm and pacing—respecting that makes the trail better for everyone."

Hiking Mount Minsi: Trails and Terrain
The terrain is characterized by its ruggedness, featuring steep, rocky inclines and uneven surfaces. Sections can feel like climbing numerous flights of stairs made of rock. This makes sturdy hiking boots with good ankle support absolutely essential. Trekking poles are also highly recommended for added stability, especially when the rocks are wet or slippery due to humidity.
Beyond the main summit trail, the Appalachian Trail itself winds through the area, offering opportunities for longer treks. A particularly scenic part of the trail is a section lined with native rhododendrons, creating a lush, green tunnel that is beautiful year-round. While the hike is demanding, the breathtaking views from the summit make the effort worthwhile.
Navigating Parking and Access

Due to the limited parking and potential for spotty cell service in the area, carpooling is a highly recommended strategy for groups.
