This is the Ford Mansion. This was George Washington's Headquarters during the "Hard Winter" (probably the coldest on record) of 1779 to 1780 This was where George and Martha stayed.

"Interesting stop if you are interested in the history of George Washington or Braddock‘s ill-fated March to Fort Duquesne. Unfortunately, you cannot enter and the windows provide a cloudy view of the space, but it’s cool to see this piece of American history preserved. Worth a stop if you are driving by."

"The President’s headquarters!

Historic log cabin in Riverside Park, used by the 1st US President as military command post in 1794.

This was one of many roadside attractions that we saw while traveling through Maryland this past summer. George Washington‘s headquarters was not open to go into, but you were able to look through the windows at thebust of the President. Very cool to look at, however, just behind it seemed to be a little camp of homeless folks. One gentleman specifically was very friendly and greeted us, but I think it kind of took away from being able to walk around the entire building and check everything out due to them being set up directly behind it.

Might be something for the city to check into because it might deter travelers from wanting to stop and check this out.

If we are ever back through this area, and the surrounding property was empty, we would love to stop again and check more out around the back.

"I thought this was so cool when I was little but when we brought the kids to share this special historical place, we didn't stay long. There are vagrants in one of my photos a few yards out but still unwelcoming. Someone needs to check on this place as it looks like someone attempted to kick the door in. There are cardboard boxes flattened out for someone to sleep right on the side of the building. Someone is maintaining the landscape nicely but needs security."
