What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Whiting Park offers a beautiful location on Lake Charlevoix with highly praised clean bathhouses and great value. However, some visitors have encountered issues with unlevel or flood-prone campsites and occasional noise disturbances from neighbors, leading to mixed experiences regarding site quality and management responsiveness.
"I love staying here. Great communication when your site is flooded. They called me and got me a new site right away. Bath house is the cleanest I have ever been in. No water hook but they offer fresh water to fill your tank and dump station when you leave. Price is great! Will definitely be back."
Missy Miller
"Had a site with view of the lake but that's all that was good. The site was a swamp with the picnic table in the middle. Asked if there was a different site avaliable. With no understanding from the manager he pretty much said you should have know when you booked the site. So not aloud to change sites and didn't like how are camper was parked so we could stay out of the water. When suggest this shouldn't be a site he said he would love to let me run the campground but I'm not. So I'm sure I will never be back. Would rather stay at a state park."
Stacy Phillips
"Love the view, nice bathrooms, and showers . Loved my camp spot until my last day. My neighbor campsite ignored quiet hours and were talking loudly, banging on stuff at 6:15 am."

Navigating Campsite Challenges
Beyond the terrain, campsite proximity can also be a factor. While some visitors enjoy the camaraderie of close neighbors, others have experienced disturbances from loud parties or early morning noise, impacting their stay. If you prioritize peace and quiet, consider requesting a site that is more secluded or borders fewer other campsites. The park's popularity means sites can fill up quickly, so booking in advance is crucial, particularly for those seeking the coveted lakefront spots. Understanding these potential issues beforehand can help you choose a site that best suits your camping style and ensures a more enjoyable experience.
Despite these potential drawbacks, many visitors find the park's amenities and location to be worth the effort. The cleanliness of the bathhouses is frequently highlighted as a major positive. While there are no water hookups, the availability of fresh water to fill tanks and a dump station makes longer stays feasible. The park's value is often cited as a key reason for its appeal, making it a popular choice for those looking to experience Lake Charlevoix without breaking the bank.
The Lake Charlevoix Experience
Beyond the immediate beach access, Lake Charlevoix is a hub for various water activities. While Whiting Park itself may not have extensive boat launch facilities, the lake is popular for boating, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Events like the Boyne Thunder poker run highlight the lake's significance for boaters and enthusiasts. The expansive nature of the lake means there's plenty of room for everyone to enjoy their chosen activity, whether it's a leisurely cruise or a day spent exploring hidden coves.
For those who prefer to stay on land, a hiking trail is conveniently located just across the street from the park, offering a different perspective of the natural surroundings. This provides an excellent opportunity to explore the local flora and fauna and enjoy the fresh air. The combination of lake activities and nearby trails makes Whiting Park a well-rounded destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
