"A rare miss for the Ohio Historical Society. After driving two-hours from Trumball County, we arrived at Fort Laurens to find the park closed to host a school event. A thoroughly disinterested gentleman sitting at the entry told us the park was closed and if we really wanted to see it, we should come back Saturday. Nothing on the memorial web page or Google Maps information page mentioned the park closing for school events. Given the large park area, visitors could tour the grounds without interfering with the school groups. And park personnel in public facing jobs could pull their head out of books and games and help walk-in visitors. We have visited several sites operated by the Ohio Historical Society and have always found them immaculately maintained and staffed by motivated staff. But on this day, Fort Laurens fell short."
