21 Years Later — Still Trail-Ready
In 2004, I purchased a Patagonia jacket, long sleeve shirt, and short sleeve shirt from Mountain Crossings at Neels Gap — the iconic outfitter located directly on the Appalachian Trail in Blairsville, GA. These items were sold to me by Winton Porter, the shop owner at the time, whose deep knowledge and genuine care for hikers made the experience unforgettable.
Mountain Crossings is more than a gear shop — it’s a rite of passage for hikers in the first 40 miles of the AT. Whether you’re buying gear, seeking advice, or just soaking in the spirit of the trail, it’s a place that stays with you — just like the gear.
Fast forward 21 years: I still wear all three pieces. The long sleeve shirt (pictured) has endured thousands of miles, countless washes, and every kind of weather imaginable — and it’s still trail-ready. Patagonia’s commitment to durability and responsible design is unmatched. This gear has outlasted trends, seasons, and even careers.
Thank you, Patagonia, for building that last. And thank you, Mountain Crossings, for being part of my journey."
