Last week’s wintry weather in the Eastern Sierra took a toll on Rock Creek Lake and Canyon. While pops of color remain along the road and some around the lake, many trees, especially on the road up to Little Lakes Valley Trail are past peak – stripped of their leaves or showing bunches that are turning black. This canyon is still a beautiful sight to behold, and will be through the end of the wee...

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently rave about the breathtaking beauty of Little Lakes Valley, calling it idyllic and a world-class hiking experience with stunning alpine lakes and dramatic peaks. While popular, many find the trails manageable and the rewards immense. Some note the need for preparedness regarding altitude, weather, and insects.

"One of the best hikes - very scenic, next to the rock creek. We just want to see a nice alpine lake. It turned out a very nice hike - not too long not too difficult yet the final reward was huge - the heart lake was gorgeous."

"This place lives up to the hype. It's beautiful - bordering on idyllic, very popular, and easily accessible - both in terms of getting there and the hiking once you're there.

Bring sunscreen, bug repellant (this place lives up to its name around dusk), plenty of water, and some snacks.

The very popular Gem Lake trail starts at 10,200' and the only gains ~1,200' in elevation, but elevation hits people differently. Be self aware and act accordingly."

Ira (IFTOGO)

"A lovely hike. Even the parking lot views don't disappoint. We didn't make it to Gem Lake (what a shame) but we made it out four lakes with five kids. Seriously one of the most beautiful hikes we have done. There are some uphills and plenty uneven terrain for kids to fall on, but take your time. Bring a swim suit and let kids play in streams/lakes. I'd suggest plenty water and a packed lunch."
