Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the natural beauty and wildness of Cape Lookout National Seashore, particularly the opportunity to see wild horses and collect seashells. The ferry ride is often highlighted as a pleasant part of the experience. However, the frequent closure of the lighthouse for climbing and the limited amenities can be a drawback for some.

"Amazing evening and love the ferry ride and cape lookout at lighthouse and always finding seashells"

Marie Welborn

"This is now one of my favorite places. Shackleford Beach is a great spot to search for beautiful shells, dig clams and watch wild horses. Cape lookout was great, despite the lighthouse being closed for repairs. A light keeper museum, boardwalks to help travel the dunes, showers, and access to ocean and sound waters for swimming."

Nichol Tate

"The Visitor Center rounded up the experience, today. We used a ferry service to go to the islands in the morning. Once we return to pier on Beauford, we headed to the Vicitor Center to use the bathrooms and check out the exhibits. A very warm and knowledgeable interpretor greeted us. She talked to us about the building history and wonderful art on display. My son had worked through the Junior Ranger booklet at summer camp during the week and the Ranger verified it and gave him the pledge and badge. She was great with the kids! I highly recommend making this place part of your Core Banks excursion."
