What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the scenic beauty of mountain apple orchards, especially during fall. The U-pick experience, delicious cider donuts, and family-friendly atmosphere are consistently praised. Some find the mountain weather unpredictable and weekends can be quite crowded.
"Fun and relatively short hike south on the Appalachian Trail from where it crosses the Blue Ridge Parkway. A few steep stair sections but, as an added bonus, you get to pass through The Guillotine, as well. There’s a locked gated access road from the Parkway up to the radar dome just south of the overlook/parking area, but there are no trespassing signs. I’m not certain if the sign is indicating just no vehicle traffic or foot traffic, too. Admittedly, no foot traffic, too, would be strange since you can access the same area via the Appalachian Trail. I guess one could call ranger jurisdiction office and find out if they were so inclined. Great place for some boulder climbing at the top for some panoramic views. Plenty of flat grassy space to let kids run around and have a picnic. The weather up there can be vastly different than just a few miles on the Appalachian Trail or Parkway on either direction, so plan on layering accordingly."

"Highest point in VA. This is in Blue Ridge parkway. 3950 feet from sea level. Breathtaking view of the surrounding area during the fall colors change."

"This is an easy hike since it is right off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Since you are high up you have excellent views. I call it the large golf ball since it has an FAA tower on it. Follow the Appalachain Trail as it crosses the summit. If you wanted you could do a little loop hike and come back via the parkway."
