What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the unparalleled location and breathtaking views of Peaks of Otter, especially from the lodge overlooking Abbott Lake. While the accommodations are basic and can be pricey, the natural beauty and serene atmosphere make it a worthwhile destination for many, particularly during fall. Some guests have noted issues with food quality and room cleanliness, but the stunning scenery often outweighs these concerns.
"I gave everything 5 stars, primarily because of the location. The lodge is an “old-fashioned” motor lodge-type motel. While the rooms are pretty basic — clean and comfortable — you are paying for the views and location. They had two large groups while we were there — our group of about 45 who had gathered for a friend’s celebration of life and a wedding party. Every room has either a private balcony or patio, overlooking Abbott Lake and the “Peaks of Otter.” of the buildings was designated as pet-friendly. The restaurant accommodated our group gatherings in their very comfortable meeting room — a catered happy hour event and luncheon. The restaurant staff went out of their way to seat us as a large group for a dinner.
I think everyone else staying there were hikers and there are several trails within easy walking distance of the lodge, including an easy-peasy, one-mile walk around Abbott Lake. There are several chairs located along the lake and a lovely fire pit. You can even arrange a shuttle ride to within 1,500 feet of the top of Sharp Top Mountain. Or you walk to the beginning of a trail and hike part or all of it. Highly recommend doing that!
It’s pricey for the level of accommodation you’re getting, but the location, views and if you’re staying with a group of friends, the many places you can gather to enjoy the views and one another’s company is a pure delight and worth the cost."

"Location is everything! If it's luxury and amenities you are looking for go look somewhere else this is not a hotel that provides a whole lot. For snacks they have nothing and their ice machine is in desperate need of cleaning. For the price of the joint you($264 check-in time 4:00 p.m. check out time 11:00 a.m.) would think you could at least have access to a microwave but there is none. There are no phones in the room you have to walk up the hallway outside to be able to call the front desk. If you're going for Aesthetics of the surroundings then it is perfect! it is beautiful this time of year, my husband and I been here twice for our anniversary this year it was our 37th. but access to the rooms is very bad especially someone who is disabled like myself I thought getting back and to my room from the parking lot was going to kill me. The restaurant area was beautiful but the food sucks and is terribly expensive. $47 for my husband and I to have breakfast buffet!!! By the time you get the food to the table it's ice cold and there's no microwave so the waitress has to make you another plate that's not been touched by you to be able to heat it up. And while the servers were very nice they were also very condescending I do not like being called sweetheart and darling and every other pet name by someone who doesn't even know me my husband doesn't even call me those things."

"I needed a little reset and ultimately decided to stay here. I have no regrets! Everyone I came in contact with was friendly, the staff was great and the food is good. I recommend the Crab Cakes! The room was fine (a little dusty and a few webs but you are in the mountains) I love that there is a privacy balcony and the view was AMAZING! I drove through the mountains and its simply breathtaking. I plan on coming back with my family when the foliage changes. Thanks again to the great staff!"
