What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Andalusia Historic House, Gardens & Arboretum is lauded for its stunning, meticulously maintained grounds and picturesque Delaware River views. While the gardens and arboretum receive universal praise, some visitors have reported inconsistent and unwelcoming experiences with certain staff members during house tours. Despite this, the natural beauty and historical charm of the estate make it a worthwhile visit for many.
"Beautiful grounds, with expansive gardens and an arboretum, all of which border on the Delaware river. Unfortunately, the tour staff do not match the welcoming beauty of the property.
We encountered two employees here. The man seated at the big house was rude and unwelcoming. He offered no information and basically grunted when we asked where the bathrooms were located.
The tour guide was curt and cold. Her tour felt scripted and she did not have answers for many of the questions asked by the guests on the tour, repeatedly deferring to “that’s not on the inventory, so I don’t know.”
She admonished the guests several times on the tour so that we felt like we were walking on eggshells. She wouldn’t even let anyone leave to use the restroom, stating “we all exit together!” I understand the security concerns, but if people have to leave, let them. Maybe have another staff member to escort people out. Sounds like there is money to do so…
I’ve been to estates like this around the world and have never encountered such a self serious and harsh tour. Teaching history should be fun, passionate and welcoming. You won’t find any of these characteristics on the tour. The house itself is just ok; it’s a bit run down, and aside from some interesting paintings and WWI relics inside, isn’t worth viewing unless you really crave some wealth worship. A self guided tour with staff supervision would be more valuable imo.
Go for the beautiful grounds outside, but don’t expect any helpful or welcoming info from the employees. Grab a map and expect to do your own research prior to arriving. 5 stars for the grounds crew, who keep the property immaculate."

"Debbie was the tour guide for the house. She was excellent! The house has steps but no elevator. There was a restroom
outside. The paths were made of gravel or
grass paths. I would not recommend strollers or wheelchairs. They have adequate parking. You could have a beautiful wedding in the gardens or on the
grounds around the house. You can bring a picnic lunch but they could use picnic tables."

"This a beautiful place along the Delaware river in Bensalem. Explore the gardens on your own. There is a large variety of wonderful plants. Stay for the house tour as well. Our guide had many amusing stories about the Biddle family that used this location as a summer getaway from the heat of Philadelphia from the 1800s to the 1980s"
