What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Wedgwood Institute as a stunning architectural gem and a vital celebration of the Potteries' industrial heritage. However, concerns are frequently raised about the building's preservation and the surrounding area's dilapidation, with many hoping for greater investment and care to protect this significant landmark.
"A fabulously decorative celebration of Josiah Wedgwood and Potteries industrial heritage. The exterior of the building features a series sculptural friezes celebrating the ceramic industry. Also the months and their astrological signs form another series of relief panels. Exquisite 19th century architectural ceramics. An important building for Stoke on Trent, the nation and internationally. Whilst there have been efforts to preserve this magnificent building there are plenty of issues that are threatening it's survival.
Unfortunately, Queen Street, once the pride of Burslem on which it stands, has become very dilapidated as is the case in much of Stoke on Trent and its industrial and artistic heritage.
Much of this fall on the local authority to try to remedy who have suffered massive funding cuts themselves. Consequently, the future of the important heritage, of which Stoke on Trent can be truly proud, is in danger of being lost."
