What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Walthamstow Market is a lively and diverse street market, celebrated for its length, vibrant atmosphere, and wide array of goods including fabrics and affordable street food. While some visitors note varying quality and occasional cleanliness issues, its strong community vibe and bargain prices make it a worthwhile experience for those seeking authentic East London charm.
"I’ve been to Walthamstow Market a few times, and overall it’s a pretty good local market — definitely one of the livelier ones in London. It’s long (actually said to be one of the longest street markets in Europe), and you can find a bit of everything here: fruit and veg stalls, clothes, fabrics, household goods, street food, and a mix of independent traders. The atmosphere is always busy and full of character, especially on weekends.
That said, it’s not perfect. Some areas could use a bit of a refresh, and the cleanliness isn’t always great — you’ll see a bit of litter around at times. The quality of the stalls also varies quite a lot; some are great and others feel a bit hit-or-miss. It can get quite crowded, and parking nearby isn’t always easy.
On the plus side, prices are decent, and the local community vibe is strong — lots of friendly traders and a good mix of cultures and foods. It’s one of those markets that really represents everyday London life.
Overall, I’d give Walthamstow Market 3.5 out of 5 stars. It’s not fancy, but it’s fun, diverse, and worth a visit if you enjoy traditional markets and don’t mind a bit of chaos."

"Great market. Lots of stalls and speciality shops to cater for all tastes. It's the only place where I've been able to buy Tapioca Starch and Gum Arabic from the same store. We walked down to the Market Cafe which is like a shrine to Princess Diana. Lots of pictures of her on the walls. Had a very substantial meal at a reasonable price. Highly recommended. Currently there is lots of building going on which means the Mall Car Park has been altered and is a bit confusing with the new layout and payment schemes. The market is well worth a visit though."

"some items are over priced. I understand that people trying to make a living but when your quality is not great and everybody got same products. few vendors had great items for very good price. but mostly everything is same thing. for example bags. everybody got the same bags. get a bit more creative."
