What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently rave about The Newt Somerset's stunning gardens, immersive Roman Villa, and high-quality farm-to-table dining. The estate's meticulous upkeep and friendly staff contribute to a relaxed yet luxurious atmosphere. However, some guests find the prices, particularly for spa treatments and accommodation, to be very high, with occasional feedback about room comfort not matching the premium cost.
"This place is out of this world!! Visited for the day and loved the whole experience. They’ve done everything so well and high quality, but it still feels relaxed and informal. Staff are friendly and helpful. The Roman Villa experience is amazing (leave 1.5 hours), the farm shop is food/drink heaven, and Sunday Roast at the Botanical Rooms delicious. Would LOVE to stay here!"

"Absolutely stunning setting. Fabulous spa treatments- although very expensive £208 for a 45 minute massage. Food is interesting, varied, in season and delicious. So much to do Roman Villa is a must, gardens are inspiring and so beautifully kept and you can drive round the estate in a golf cart. Staff are so friendly and super helpful. I guess you get what you pay for."

"We recently stayed at The Newt and would like to start by thanking the staff, who were consistently kind, supportive, and professional throughout our visit. The gardens are absolutely stunning and the overall setting is truly serene. The Farmyard room, where we stayed on our third night, was much more comfortable than our initial accommodation.
However, for the very high price point, we felt a clear mismatch between cost and value — particularly during the first two nights at The Granary. The room was sparsely furnished, with a decor style that felt mismatched and more like a temporary rental than a luxury retreat. The bed was unstable — one of us actually fell off the platform — and there were no bedside tables or comfortable seating indoors. Outdoor furniture didn’t compensate for the lack of interior comfort.
We had contacted the hotel two weeks in advance to plan activities, but only received a reply after a third follow-up, which was disappointing for a hotel of this calibre. During our stay, we expressed our concerns to staff, but although they were polite, no solutions or compensation were offered.
The steam room at the spa also wasn’t functioning properly, and the emergency button failed — which led us to abandon the treatment altogether.
We believe The Newt has enormous potential, and the outdoor experience is truly special. But in our case, the comfort and service offered — particularly in The Granary — fell far short of the premium rates charged. At this stage, we would recommend visiting during the day, but not necessarily staying overnight."
