Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Stromness Museum for its incredible value and the sheer depth of its eclectic collections, spanning natural history, maritime tales, and local culture. Many are surprised by how much there is to see, often returning for a second visit within their week-long ticket validity. While some might initially perceive it as small, its rich content makes it a highly recommended stop for anyone visiting Orkney.

"This small museum is packed with interesting collections of natural and cultural historical objects. Plenty of information is on hand about Orkney, the local residents of Stromness and their interactions with the wider world. Featured are eclectic items collected over the past several centuries. Well worth a visit. 👍👍👍"

"I'm only posting one image as I cannot stress how amazing this museum is, and everyone should visit it if you are on the island. There is simply so much to learn about, and I highly reccommend reading the entire folder of the story of Eliza Fraser, checking out the 3D Lidar scans of HMS Royal Oak and some of the sunken German boats as well, and about the opening of the North West Passage as well as the most stunning collection of birds, shells and sealife. 10/10, I think £7.50 to get in is massively undervalued for how much information is on offer here!"

James Daytona

"Initially we weren't sure whether to go in as it seemed small and unimpressive, but oh boy were we wrong! We ended up coming back to it after a few days as there was so much to see in it and they allow coming back as much as you want with the same tickets within a week. In the end we probably spent about 3 hours here.

They've really got everything you can think of here - from various artefacts from various ships sunken around Orkney, to green energy items, stuffed birds and even a necklace made out of human teeth! Alright, enough spoilers, just go in, you won't be disappointed."
