One of my favourite little museums. If you visit Southwold you must go. Open during the holiday season in the afternoons. The Viking ship rudders are possibly one of my favourite museum items ever! #southwoldmuseum #southwold #suffolk

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Southwold Museum, calling it a 'gem' packed with fascinating local and natural history. Despite its small size, the thoughtfully curated exhibits, including mammoth teeth and Viking rudders, offer an engaging experience for all ages. The volunteer-run nature and free entry (with donations encouraged) add to its charm, though limited afternoon opening hours require planning.

"Nice little museum and interesting.
Dolls house was presented by the Runnicles ,may be related to a school friend"

David Clarke

"Such an impressive museum, especially for the size and for one largely (or entirely?) volunteer run. The displays have been carefully thought through to make the most of the space and the collections. I particularly like the ‘seek and find’ drawers and the interactive table and chest of drawers for children, allowing you to place an object on the table and learn more about it on the screen. It would be very easy for such a small space, displaying such a wonderful array of objects over such a long time period to be overwhelmingly cluttered. This museum manages to avoid that and instead has interpreted the collection and displayed it in categories which are accessible and interesting for all ages. My 1 year old loved it as there was so much to see at his level. Thank you!"

Esther Green

"Very interesting museum, but you have to catch it at the right time as its only open between 2pm and 4pm. Run by volunteers, it's free but donate to keep it going!! Lots of history and artifacts. It'll keep you occupied for an hour... At least."
