Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Southwold Sailors' Reading Room for its unique atmosphere, rich history, and role as a peaceful retreat from the busy seafront. Many appreciate the detailed displays of maritime artifacts and photographs, finding it a fascinating glimpse into the town's seafaring past. Some note the restriction on photography and the encouragement of donations.

"Wow. Such an amazing little space. Full of atmosphere and history. Lovely to sit and enjoy the room and Al it's photographs and artifacts with the sounds of the seaside right outside."

Sandy Holman

"A must see for WG Siebald fans. Papers, armchairs, seafaring memorabilia but sadly not salty sea dogs."

Sam MacDonald

"This is a Southwold landmark, it is also a quiet place to retreat to from the hustle and bustle of Southwold daily life during the summer. There's lots of pictures on display of people who used to live in Southwold and some historical events, plus model ships, newspaper cuttings, stuff normally associated with a small museum in a small seaside town in Suffolk. I come here regularly whenever I visit Southwold, as there is a free local newspaper and a copy of the times that's left for visitors to read. You can make a donation towards the upkeep of the reading room, I recommend you do that as I would like this place to stay open. From a nostalgic point of view my dad used to play snooker in the back room of the building when he was growing up."
