Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Southwold Electric Picture Palace for its unique, nostalgic experience, highlighting the charming retro ambiance, the captivating rising organist, and the friendly, volunteer-run atmosphere. While the intimate setting and traditional elements are major draws, the limited seating and cash-only policy are practical considerations for planning a visit.

"This is Southwold's only cinema, run by a charitable trust set up to give people in the 21st century an idea of what it was like to go to the cinema in the 20th century. Having worked in a cinema in the 20th century myself, they more or less have got it spot on but it does more modern features. There's a digital projector and modern surround sound for showing the films, the auditorium is more 20th century with traditional cinema seats. They do have a break in longer films with an organ coming out of the stage. Tickets are very reasonably priced though you do have to buy membership which still turned out to be cheaper than chain cinemas. Food and drink is Reasonable. Only open on Friday and Saturday evenings during schooltimes. Seating is limited to 70 so book in advance. My opinion is that this is a traditional take on old cinemagoing with a modern twist."

Mike

"What a super little bit of retro cinematic recent history! An absolutely wonderful experience; from reserving your ticket (no card payments, of course), to being greeted by Fred the commissionaire, and entering the red plush auditorim.

Absolutely everything is perfect, always a double billling and always a packed house so absolutely essential to reserve tickets in advance.

Mini-Wurlitzer rising from the stage, usherettes with icrecream and the National Anthem... it has everything!"

"What an experience. From the minute you step inside. I felt like I had travelled back in time. A truly wonderful place, wonderful staff. Fantastic organ player too."
