Reviews Summary

Visitors praise St. Mary the Virgin for its serene, secluded setting within Thetford Forest and its charming traditional architecture, particularly the flintwork and stained glass. The well-kept churchyard is often highlighted as a peaceful spot for reflection. Some note the tower's lack of prominence due to its location.

"St. Mary's is a traditionally built, attractive stone & flint rural Norfolk church. It's located at the centre of Santon Downham, surrounded by the pine trees characteristic of this village in the heart of Thetford Forest. St. Mary the Virgin has some interesting flint wall decoration around the outside of the building. The churchyard is well kept & has a garden atmosphere about it, very secluded by the tall conifers. The inside of St. Mary's is plain white walls & traditional woodwork, but has some very ornate stained glass windows. The tower is actually quite tall, but doesn't stand out from a distance because of the building's setting at the bottom of a steep incline."
