Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Craig Goch Dam for its majestic masonry architecture and the tranquil moorland scenery. While some were disappointed by low water levels due to essential maintenance, they appreciated the dam's historical significance and the beauty of the landscape even without full water flow. It's considered a great spot for a relaxing walk and photography.

"Scenic dam and reservoir. Would have been great to see it with the water overflowing the dam but water levels had been lowered to enable divers to work on the emergency overflow below the dam. We might forget that these structures need maintenance to keep them working safely. But they do of course.
Still we stopped for a while to take in the scenery which is different from the other low level dams. There's more of a moorland landscape with occasional clumps of trees. Quite beautiful."

"Visited Craig Goch Dam recently and was genuinely impressed by its majestic architecture. Completed in 1904, this masonry masterpiece stands as a testament to thoughtful engineering and aesthetic vision—something sorely lacking in many of today’s soulless constructions.

Unfortunately, my visit coincided with essential maintenance work, which meant the water level was significantly reduced. While this was a slight letdown visually, I fully understand the importance of preserving such a historic structure. I’ll definitely return to witness it in full force once the work is complete.

Craig Goch isn’t just a dam—it’s a reminder that infrastructure can be both functional and beautiful. Let’s hope future projects take a page from its book."

"Pretty looking dam. Shame the water levels were very low when we visited in June. Can walk and drive along it"
