Reviews Summary

Perranporth Beach is overwhelmingly loved for its immense size, golden sands, and the unique natural sea pool. Visitors praise its year-round dog-friendliness and excellent surfing conditions. While it can get very busy, the stunning sunsets and the vibrant atmosphere of the beach bar make it a memorable experience for many.

"This is one of my favourite beaches and although we base ourselves elsewhere when we holiday in Cornwall, a day in Perranporth is always on the to-do list. The beach is massive, has an impressive tidal range and has everything including golden sands and rock pools. We usually base ourselves at Chapel Rock (the big rock with the flag on it) This beach is very popular with surfers and there's a lifeguard presence. Lots of good eateries in the area and places to buy food for a picnic on the beach. Public beach."

Elizabeth Baker

"Soft sand, great for surfing and body boarding, safe clean inlets for younger kids to play in. Sand dunes and beach path for exploring. Easy access to the town. Dog friendly - off lead even past a certain point. From 2 hours past high tide the full length of the beach can be accessed allowing for a really long walk or run. Beach bar provides a fabulous spot to watch the sun set. Our favourite spot in Cornwall"

Joanna Stuart

"Absolutely fantastic beach, dog friendly all year round. Got cafes on the edge and the dunes, easy to access via a ramp and also has the ability to hire local buggies for those that struggle to walk on the sand. It is great in the summer season and also outside the summer season."

The Magic of the Tides

Perranporth Beach is renowned for its impressive tidal range, which dramatically alters the landscape throughout the day. At low tide, the beach expands to become one of Cornwall's largest, offering miles of golden sand perfect for long walks, running, or simply finding your own secluded spot. Instagram Conversely, high tide brings the water closer to the dunes, creating a more intimate beach experience and filling the natural sea pool. It's essential to check tide times before your visit to make the most of your beach day, whether you're planning a leisurely stroll or a refreshing swim. Instagram

This tidal phenomenon also influences the surfing conditions. While Perranporth is a popular surf spot year-round, the waves can vary significantly depending on the tide. Beginners might find calmer conditions closer to high tide, while more experienced surfers might prefer the breaks at lower tides. Lifeguards are on duty during the main season, adding an extra layer of safety for all beachgoers. Reddit

Exploring the Penhale Dunes

Beyond the main stretch of sand, the Penhale Dunes at the northern end of Perranporth Beach offer a unique and captivating landscape. These rolling sand dunes are a designated nature reserve and provide a stark contrast to the bustling beach below. Walking through the dunes feels like stepping into a different world, with marram grass swaying in the breeze and a sense of wild, untamed beauty. Instagram

These dunes are not only visually stunning but also offer fantastic walking opportunities and are part of the South West Coast Path. They provide excellent vantage points for photography, with sweeping views back over the beach and out to the Atlantic Ocean. For those seeking a bit of adventure, exploring the nooks and crannies of the dunes can be a rewarding experience, offering a sense of discovery away from the main crowds. Instagram
