What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors generally find the Fairbourne Railway a charming and enjoyable experience, particularly for families with young children. The novelty of the steam train and the combined ferry trip to Barmouth are frequently praised. While the carriages are noted as being small, the short journey length mitigates this. The scenic views and the opportunity to explore Barmouth and its bridge add significant value to the visit.
"We visited during school half term. The train journey itself isn't really picturesque but it is a bit of a nice novelty for little ones. Carriages are quite small and not the most comfortable, but the trip isnt long so not really an issue. There was a little shop at the station and a cafe (not open when we visited on Sat) at the ferry stop. There are toilets at the ferry stop but these were locked on our outbound journey (open inbound). Walk down to the ferries could be tricky for some - you have to cross sandy dunes and then a rocky shoreline."

"Fantastic little railway. We was able to get some free on street parking. 2 adults and 2 children came to £32, but that was all day travel and you can come back as much as you want within the next year if you gift aid. Cafes and toilet at the station. Beautiful scenery."
Emily Tricarico-Humber
"A relatively short but fun and very panoramic mini steam rail trip for the family to then get the even smaller but equally fun ferry boat at the end of the line across to Barmouth. Good value for money for a family steam locomotive trip."
