What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning, ever-changing views of the Menai Suspension Bridge and Britannia Bridge from the Belgian Promenade. It's praised as a calm, peaceful spot perfect for leisurely walks, with ample seating and interesting wildlife. The main drawback mentioned is the relatively short length of the walk itself.
"Stunning walks to view both bridges spanning the Menai Straits between Anglesey and the main land. Areas to sit down and watch the ever changing views, spring tides are interesting when the walk way floods over."
Gerry
"Lovely spot. You have great views of the Menai suspension bridge and the Britannia bridge as well as church island. You can also nip up to waitrose through the forest from here. It's a quick walk into Menai Bridge as well."
Iain Lettice
"My absolute favourite place to walk to. It's only about a 25-minute walk from the University. You get amazing views of 2 different bridges and it's full of wildlife. It's a very calm and peaceful area with very little footfall and hardly any traffic noise. Plenty of benches. If you're into skimming, there's a smaller stream which is perfect for it.
The only downfall is it's not a very long walk - about 15 minutes in total if you walk along the graveyard island too."

The Iconic Bridges of Menai
The Britannia Bridge, a much larger and more robust structure, was completed in 1850. Originally designed as a tubular wrought iron bridge, it has since been rebuilt and reinforced to accommodate modern rail and road traffic. Its imposing presence contrasts with the delicate beauty of the suspension bridge, creating a dramatic skyline.
Visitors often spend time comparing the two structures, appreciating their distinct architectural styles and historical significance. The ever-changing tides of the Menai Strait can also add a dynamic element to the views, with spring tides sometimes flooding the lower walkways.
Exploring Church Island and Local Access
The island also provides elevated viewpoints, allowing visitors to climb up towards a monument that offers panoramic vistas of the Menai Strait and the surrounding landscape. This makes it a worthwhile detour for those seeking a bit more exploration beyond the main promenade.
For those looking to extend their walk, the Belgian Promenade is conveniently located. It's a quick walk into the heart of Menai Bridge town, where you can find amenities and further explore the local area. Some visitors even mention the possibility of accessing Waitrose supermarket through a nearby wooded area, highlighting the practical connectivity of the location.
