What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Silifke Castle for its stunning panoramic views, especially at sunset over the Göksu River, and its historical significance. The presence of a cafe and restrooms adds to the convenience. However, some visitors note that parts of the castle may be closed for renovation, impacting full accessibility.
"According to the basic findings, Silifke Castle is understood to belong to the Hellenistic or Early Roman Period, and as a result of the repairs and changes it has undergone, it today has the appearance of a Medieval castle. The oval-shaped castle, built on a hill that dominates Silifke, is 185 meters high, surrounded by a dry moat, and contains arched galleries, water cisterns, warehouses, and other ruins.
The famous traveler Evliya Çelebi wrote in his Seyahatname that in the 17th century, there were 23 towers in the Silifke Castle, and that there was a mosque and 60 houses inside. However, since some of the towers and the inside of the castle were completely ruined, it is not possible to make a complete determination. There are 10 bastions that can still be seen in the castle."
