"Uthina,

It is an ancient Roman city located in the north of Tunisia, about 30 km from the capital Tunis. Its history dates back to the 2nd century BC and was an important settlement during the Roman period.

Uthina was founded in the 2nd or 1st century BC during the Roman Empire's rule in North Africa. The city developed rapidly thanks to its fertile agricultural lands and strategic location.

It was an important agricultural and commercial center in the Roman province of Africa (Africa Proconsularis). Rich villas, temples, theaters, baths and structures such as aqueducts were built. It is especially famous for its villas decorated with mosaics.

Today, Uthina is visited as an archaeological site and is protected as one of the important historical heritages of Tunisia."

"This archaeological site is my favourite historical landmark in Tunisia. It is a gem and doesn’t seem to be as popular as other sites.
The intimacy of the place is rather unique. There is a wonderful echo when you speak in the middle of the arena. The acoustics is really great.
There are a number of buildings/structures on site starting with the newish exhibition hall/reception followed by the amphitheatre, then you have the cistern, aqueduct, baths and fort. This place is huge. You will probably need a minimum of 120 minutes to explore here. I have been here twice.
Most people may not know this but the cistern has an accessible basement/chamber open to the public. Despite tiles being exposed to the weather, some are still visible from the baths.
This is undoubtedly the best site near Tunis. It is a must if you visit Tunis. Give yourself sufficient time and you will not regret this memorable place.
There is free and plenty parking. Toilet facilities are available in three different spots on site.
Good shoes might be necessary.
There is good security on site.
Oudna is about 35-45 minutes away from Tunis by car."
