What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Muang Paeng Hot Springs is lauded as a peaceful, well-maintained natural escape with free entry. Visitors appreciate the unique experience of boiling eggs and the tranquil atmosphere, though some note the natural appearance of the pool bottoms. The scenic journey from Pai is also a highlight.
"Calm and peaceful spot. No one around. They have made two small ponds to take bath. One long and narrow and one circular. The ponds bottom is filled with algae so when you look inside the pond, it looks dirty. But it is just earthy. Also, you can sit and view the hot springs at a close distance from the bathing spots. 100% recommended. No one goes here. No entry fees. And above all. It is a perfect camping spot. Mind the wild animals around though. There is just one cleaner for the place who periodically cleans the ponds and the flowing water, but it is maintained decently. You can take hot sauna and then chill in the icy cold river water for some time and then come back for hot sauna once again."

"I was pleasantly surprised by how this hot spring well maintained! It is clean, quiet, and peaceful with very few people around. I ended up staying there for half a day because I really enjoyed the feeling of soaking in the hot spring while it drizzled.
The hot spring reaches temperatures of around 100°C and 95°C in some areas, so please be careful when walking nearby. There is one pool that’s suitable for soaking, with a temperature of around 38–40°C.
Most people usually stay for about 30 mins -1hr, but I loved the sense of tranquility. I would soak for a while, come out to rest, then go back into the pool, just taking my time like that.
At one point, I bought some eggs from the vendor to cook in the hot spring. Some of the eggs were incredibly fresh, you can usually tell if an egg is fresh (within two days) when the shell is sticky and hard to peel.
The ride from Pai town takes about 50 minutes by motorbike. If you’re still getting used to riding, you might need a bit more time. The road is a two-way route and is in very good condition. Even on rainy days, it’s still fairly safe. There are quite a few curves, so just ride carefully.
The scenery along the way is beautifully rustic, perfect for those who enjoy countryside views. The last 2Km has a few potholes and some dirt patches, but overall the route is still safe."

The Journey: Riding to Muang Paeng
For those who prefer not to ride a motorbike, arranging a private taxi is an option, though it will be more expensive. Some travelers might find local tours that include the hot springs, but these are less common for this specific, less commercialized attraction. The key is to enjoy the ride and take your time, as the journey is as much a part of the adventure as the destination itself.
Experiencing the Hot Springs Safely
The pools themselves may have a natural, earthy bottom due to algae and sediment, which can make the water appear murky. However, this is normal for a natural hot spring and doesn't detract from the relaxing experience. Many visitors enjoy the sensation of soaking in the warm water while surrounded by nature. For those seeking an invigorating contrast, a nearby cold river offers a refreshing dip, creating a unique hot-and-cold therapy experience.
It's also a unique opportunity to try boiling eggs in the hot springs. A local vendor often sells fresh eggs for a small fee, and you can cook them in the natural heat. This adds a fun, interactive element to your visit. Remember to be mindful of the environment and pack out everything you bring in, as there are no extensive facilities for waste disposal.
