What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Lago di Saoseo's stunning autumn colors and turquoise waters, calling it a postcard-perfect alpine gem. However, the increasing popularity means weekends can be crowded, and parking is limited, so planning for an early weekday visit is highly recommended to preserve its serene charm.
"Saoseo Lake in autumn is truly spectacular—the golden larch trees reflecting on the clear turquoise water create a scene straight out of a postcard. The natural beauty and peaceful alpine surroundings are everything you hope for during foliage season.
However, it’s impossible to ignore the growing issue of overtourism. During my 2025 visit, the trails and viewpoints were quite crowded, and the serene atmosphere was often interrupted by large groups and constant photo stops. In some areas, the paths felt worn down, and it was harder to find a quiet moment to enjoy the scenery.
Despite this, the lake remains a breathtaking destination. I highly recommend visiting early in the morning or on weekdays to avoid the busiest times. I hope future visitors treat the area with care so that its charm and environment are preserved."

"Absolutely stunning alpine lake. Quite a hike, though!!! Do not rely on google maps or any navigator- it shows there is a road going almost there. True. But! It is only for allowed transport, so you have to park in the parking lot near the restaurant and hike all the way there and back (around 10km overall). So consider it when planning, especially with small kids. On our way back around 16:30 in late October we met a family with a toddler going up- explained to them, that there is no way on earth they will make it in daylight. Hopefully they turned back."

"You can park in Sfazù where public parking spots are available but on a nice day on a weekend it can get pretty crowded.
You can then walk up the val de camp till you reach the lake. There are plenty of signs pointing the way to the lake.
When we were there the lake was frozen but with the nice weather it looked great:)
There were quite some people and it seams to be a kind of an insta hot spot but there is a lot of space around the lake so even with some people around you can enjoy the beauty of the lake."
