Visitors enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the opportunity to observe local life from surrounding cafes. It's a charming, accessible square that offers a glimpse into Pontevedra's past.
"This square takes its name from the rear admiral of the Navy, Don Casto Méndez Núñez, who lived and died in 1869 in the aforementioned house. There is a plaque on its facade commemorating his death and two medieval shields with the arms of the Cruu family. On the west side of the square there are two other shields: the first in the house with the long balcony with columns, on the first floor (oval-shaped shield in quartered cross-shaped frame with helmet adorned with a plume, belonging to Don Luís Mosquera Soutomaior, lord of the house and town of Bentraces, and the second in the house on the right that is on the corner with Sarmiento Street, on the recessed facade, above the door, belonging to Dona Leonor de Beira e Mendoza married to Don Luís Mosquera de Villar e Pimentel Soutomaior, in 1648."
