"The Teatro Principal de Pontevedra was built in 1864 and reopened in 1983 after a major renovation following a fire in 1980. It is located on the site of the church of San Bartolomeu O Vello. It was here that, during the 14th and 15th centuries, the nerve center of the town of Pontevedra was formed. Next to the door of the old church, there was the atrium where the meetings of the brotherhoods and the City Council were held. The church functioned as a parish from the mid-13th century to the end of the 17th century. The parish of San Bartolomeu moved, after the dissolution of the Jesuits, to the church that the Order had on Sarmiento Street. In 1840, the municipal corporation decided to demolish it due to the threat of ruin. In the Castelao building of the Provincial Museum of Pontevedra, an altarpiece of the Fifth Angustia (ca. 1480) and a frontal of a baldachin with the representation of the Descent (ca. 1500) are exhibited, both from the church of San Bartolomeu "O Vello"."
