#elcamp...

However, many note that interior access to the tower is limited and often requires advance booking for guided tours, leading to disappointment for some. The area's maintenance could also be improved.

"Nothing interesting to me everything was closed."

Kourosh M

"Interesting but the area is not well kept. Very little information is provided at the site."

"A huge tower. I reached this through biking from Alicante city centre in less than an hour. From the foot of the tower, one can see La Isleta-an archaeological site nearby, and another tower on top of a hill near the sea. Not much to see around it though. But there are stairs to climb at the lower hip of the tower to see a clearer view of surroundings. It was closed when we were there."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The History and Significance of Torre de la Illeta

The Torre de la Illeta is a historic watchtower constructed between 1554 and 1557. Its primary purpose was to defend the coast from pirate attacks, a common threat in the Mediterranean during that era. The tower stands as a significant symbol for the residents of El Campello and represents a crucial piece of the region's defensive past. Instagram+1

Adjacent to the tower lies the Baños de la Reina (Queen's Baths), an important archaeological site that showcases remnants of Roman civilization. This complex includes visible ruins, offering a tangible connection to the area's ancient inhabitants. The coexistence of the 16th-century tower and the Roman ruins highlights the long and rich history of human settlement in this strategic coastal location. Instagram+1

While the tower itself was restored in 1991, access to its interior is often limited to guided tours. This means that while the exterior is a prominent landmark, experiencing the inside requires planning. The archaeological site, however, provides a more accessible way to engage with the area's historical depth. Instagram+1

Exploring the Coastal Charm of El Campello

The area surrounding Torre de la Illeta is part of the vibrant coastal town of El Campello. The El Campello Marina is a modern addition, built around the same time the tower was restored, offering a pleasant contrast to the historical structures. It's a great spot for a leisurely walk, watching fishing boats, and enjoying the sea breeze. TikTokInstagram

Beyond the immediate vicinity of the tower, El Campello boasts beautiful beaches like Playa de Carrer la Mar, a long stretch of fine golden sand that forms the central tourist hub of the town. This beach is ideal for sunbathing and swimming, with amenities nearby. Instagram The coastline also features numerous coves and smaller beaches, such as Cala del Morro Blanc and Cala Almadraba, perfect for those seeking quieter spots or snorkeling. Instagram+1

For the more adventurous, historical routes connect various towers along the coast, offering spectacular views of the Mediterranean. These trails allow visitors to experience the rugged beauty of the cliffs and discover hidden calas, combining history, nature, and physical activity. Instagram
