Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Mercado Central Alicante for its vibrant atmosphere, high-quality fresh produce, and delicious tapas offerings. It's seen as an authentic slice of local life, though some note that photography permissions should be sought. The market provides a feast for the senses and a genuine taste of Alicante.

"I love visiting food markets when traveling and this one in Alicante is excellent.

Downstairs is fish and fruit & vegetables, with meat & charcuterie and cheeses upstairs. Also plenty of bakeries, confectioners, herbs & spices stalls etc. A feast for all of the senses! Plus quite a few lovely bars for drinks and small bites.

Not every proprietor welcomes their produce being photographed by tourists, but I asked politely and found that most were accommodating. But please don’t visit this lovely place and spend nothing! A great experience."

"This is how a market should be! Mercat in Alicante gives you that almost-local feeling — the people there are genuinely welcoming 🫶. We found several favorite traders and ended up shopping almost every day. It may not be the cheapest place, but the produce and fish are always ultra-fresh and of exceptional quality 👌"

Kateryna Poberezhna

"The market is really big and has all kinds of fresh products – fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, and more. It seems like it’s mostly for locals, which gives it an authentic feel.

It’s not super touristy, but that’s part of its charm. Great place to see daily life in Alicante!"
