What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning beauty and unique experience of swimming in these natural volcanic pools, praising the calm waters and incredible coastal views. While some find it can get crowded, especially at sunset, the affordable drinks and the chance to see marine life add to the appeal. The rocky terrain is a common point of caution, with sea shoes highly recommended.
"Really loved this area with beautiful natural swimming pools just a short walk from the port in Puerto de Las Nieves along the promenade. The sea can be very rough in this area and also as it is volcanic rock, a bit tough on the feet but great to have these natural pools. It’s a perfect spot to swim, relax, and enjoy the stunning coastal scenery. There are basic changing rooms and toilets and little pop-up bar. Very popular area at sunset as well as during the day. Recommend wearing sea shoes given how rocky the surrounding area is. Not great for small children due to the rocky areas, but for adults or anyone wanting to enjoy a quieter, more natural swimming experience, it’s a hidden gem."

Caution for when the tide is high for pools closest to the surf"

"Such an interesting place to see how ocean carved some natural poles into the rocks. Also the view, with mountains in the background is just stunning. Unfortunately it was a little bit crowded. Don’t forget to bring some rubber sandals for feet protection, the soil is very rocky."

The Geology of Agaete's Pools
The surrounding landscape is equally dramatic, with the rugged northwest coast of Gran Canaria providing a stunning backdrop. The contrast between the dark volcanic rock and the vibrant blue of the ocean is a photographer's dream. Visitors often marvel at how the ocean has shaped these serene bathing spots, offering a safe and unique swimming experience distinct from typical sandy beaches.
Understanding the volcanic origins helps appreciate the raw beauty of Las Salinas. It’s a place where geological history meets recreational enjoyment, offering a glimpse into the island's fiery past and the enduring power of the sea. The presence of marine life within these pools further highlights the thriving ecosystem that has adapted to this unique environment.
Navigating the Rocky Terrain
Beyond the immediate pool areas, the walk along the promenade from Puerto de Las Nieves is generally smooth. However, accessing the pools themselves and navigating around them requires careful footing. For those with mobility issues or very young children, it's worth noting that the unevenness might present a challenge. Always watch your step, especially when the rocks might be wet from sea spray or splashes.
Securing your belongings is also crucial due to the often windy conditions. Towels and bags can easily be blown away if not properly secured. Bringing a beach bag with a zipper or weighing down your items can prevent any unexpected 'flights' of your possessions.
