Reviews Summary
Berg River Nature Reserve offers a peaceful escape with its riverfront chalets and Olympic-size pool, appealing to those seeking tranquility. However, many visitors find the strict quiet hours and vigilant security overly restrictive, leading to a less enjoyable experience for those expecting a more lively atmosphere.
"Its was okay... Not what it used to be. The 11 o clock the evening rule and no music policy needs to be looked at.... People come there to have fun and relax..... Im not saying allow them to blast there music.... But allow them to play it for themselves at least.... And 11 o clock pm the people can not talk loud... Whats that all about... Its a camp! We pay money and are not children to be treated like that... The venue its self gets a 5 star... The rest of it.... No comment.... Wont be going back there again."

"I will not camp here again. We were made quiet all day, no music, that was playing for ourselves, could not hear it outside of our camping spots. We even went to each of our camping neigbours to ask if they could hear our music, which they could not!(They wanted it louder so they could too enjoy some mellow, good tunes)
Security all up in our private space, came around every 5 mins to make us quiet. We couldn't even talk around a fire. Put us to bed at 11pm like small kids.
Security was chasing my kids around before 11pm to get back to camp.
If you want to go camping and enjoy yourself, I wouldn't reccommend this place."

"Now for this place they should add maybe a no star option. We went camping here this past weekend and were all excited like little kids..... But be careful what you wish for because at the the end we were treated like kids.....Now don't get me wrong, upon arrival I said to myself " finally a camp site thats full and busy" the vibe was awesome. OK, now that the positives are out the way, let's discuss the absolutely KAK experience we had this past weekend. Now im not gonna say anything about the music, loud talking and being put to bed at 11pm like kids, coz we all know that kak story. What I do have a problem with, is one adult telling another adult to lower their voices. I mean I was sitting around a fire taking to a friend( not even loud) when a security guard came around to tell me that we were talking to loud. I mean what the hell, and every few minutes they will come around to disturb our evening. Even our kids got gatvol of the security guards that they made them chase them all around the camping ground (the only real fun thing they've done ...lol). Guys, if you like me who really enjoys camping to the fullest, Bergrivier is not for you, but if you want to be treated like a child, then maybe this place is for you. Even on our last night there were 2 security guards sitting there right next to our camping site, we approached them and asked why they were sitting there and they came out with the kakest excuse, telling us they sitting there for the good wifi signal, but no phones in their hands. We asked them for their names and I guess they got amnesia. They even asked what we were gonna tell the receptionist after we told them we gonna go lay a complaint. Dodgy much lol... So to summarize our whole experience, the worst weekend ever....."

Understanding the Rules: Peace vs. Party
Travelers often mention security being very present and quick to address noise complaints. This vigilance, while ensuring peace for some, can lead to a feeling of being constantly monitored for others. The advice from those who've had a less-than-ideal experience is to be prepared for a very subdued atmosphere. If you're someone who enjoys having music playing softly at your campsite or engaging in lively conversations around a fire, you might find the rules here to be a significant drawback.
Ultimately, the 'vibe' of Berg River Nature Reserve is one of quiet contemplation and relaxation. The Olympic-size pool and riverfront chalets offer amenities for a comfortable stay, but the overarching rule is to keep the noise down. For those who value silence and a calm environment above all else, this reserve delivers. However, if your idea of camping involves a bit more freedom and less policing of your personal space, it might be worth considering alternative destinations.
Accommodation Options: Chalets vs. Camping
For the more adventurous or budget-conscious traveler, the campsites provide a classic camping experience. While the reviews highlight issues with campsite labeling, the fundamental offering is a space to pitch a tent or park a caravan. These sites are designed for those who enjoy being closer to nature and are comfortable with more basic facilities. However, it's important to note that even at campsites, the strict quiet policy applies, so campers should be prepared for a subdued environment after 11 PM.
Regardless of your choice, the resort's main draw remains its Olympic-size swimming pool, which serves as a central hub for recreation during the day. The overall description suggests a focus on simple comforts and a peaceful environment, rather than luxury or extensive entertainment.
