While some areas require caution, many visitors find the city surprisingly pleasant and less crowded than expected, offering an authentic South African experience. The Red Bus tour is a popular and recommended way to safely explore the CBD.
"A very special and tranquil place. Private tour only, and what a tour! Our guide has been with the gardens for 22 or so years and has a wealth of knowledge and stories about the place and how it has evolved. All the staff are so lovely, and we even got to meet Mrs Oppenheimer who was so friendly and happy to chat about the finer points of her magical gardens. Highly recommend for anyone with a love of horticulture or wild places. No photos allowed - hence no snaps under the reviews."

"Amazing place. You must visit! Most beautiful private garden in Johannesburg just next to the high away and the hollard offices. Before you go you have to book. R120 per person and the visit is 2 hours. You have a tour guide and some snacks afterwards. It was a pleasure to meet Mrs. Oppenheimer. Amazing lady. Chaos meets beauty. Loved the Japanese garden and the waterfall, the incredible collection of plants they have from all over the world, the bonsai garden, the history of the place, they have a huge library about South African history. The reason why there is no much information is because you have go there to see and feel. You will feel in total peace. What a hidden gem!"
