What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Vintgar Gorge for its breathtaking natural beauty, the unique experience of walking on wooden boardwalks over the emerald river, and its family-friendly atmosphere. The organized nature of the site and the option for guided tours are also highlighted as positives. However, some find the return journey can be crowded, and the bus back can be overcrowded during peak times.
"The gorge is beautiful and a great experience, also for children. It’s important to spend some time reading the website beforehand to understand how to get there, the different route options, and other important details. It’s a very organized site, and preparation really helps to make the most of the visit.
For families – you can pick up a booklet with activity accessories for kids at the entrance booth. Most of the activities are set along the return trail through the forest and the scenic viewpoint over the valley pn the way back. Our kids (ages 9 and 6) absolutely loved this experience! At the end, they received a small souvenir.
We completed the trail in about two and a half hours and walked fairly quickly because we were worried about missing the last bus back to the parking area at the end of the day (buses run until 20:00, then shuttle vans until 21:00 – we visited in July).
On the way back, as you exit the forest, there’s a restaurant with a well-maintained playground. It looks like a great place to stop, but unfortunately, we didn’t have time because we were in a rush."

"Beautiful and really worth a visit. The scenic views only keep getting better with every step , as well as listening to the legendary stories about heroism . Don’t miss out on the Sum falls too . However it added more distance to the trek back to shuttle station . You need to be quite fit to enjoy the trek to the station . It is not accessible for wheelchair."

"A fantastic gorge and beautiful. Really nice to be able to walk through it and enjoy the scenery. You must buy your tickets online as you can't get them at the centre. Be there for the time on your ticket, you cannot enter before the time it must be that time on the dot. Don't be late . A couple of different walk options to come back and a fairy tale walk for the kids to follow."
