Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Police Bay's stunning, untouched natural beauty and the peace it offers, making it a highlight for many. However, the rough waters, lack of facilities, and limited parking are noted drawbacks. It's a gem for those seeking solitude and raw scenery, but requires preparedness.

"It is a beautiful beach with some nice rocks on the sides. The nature is very pretty and if u are lucky u can even find some amazing shells around there. Also There is wildlife like the fregate birds or the seychelle kestrel that u can find. Also I found rockskippers which are quite fascinating creatures!"

Henk Reinicke

"The bay as well as the way underneath the palmtrees leading to the beach is beautiful . However, the water was very rough and on the day we were there, several siphonophores related to the poisonous man o'war had been washed up there. So you really had to watch your step, since, even when dead, they can still be dangerous."

Allegra Carluccio

"The best beach on Mahé!
Almost no people there, big waves, stunning scenery. One can find peace.
The photos do not reflect the actual experience, go there for sure!"

Tailored advice for your travel style

👨‍👩‍👧 Families with Kids

Police Bay offers a unique natural experience, but families should be aware of its wild nature. The rough waters and potential for dangerous marine life like siphonophores mean it's not ideal for young children to swim or play unsupervised in the water. The 10-minute walk from parking is manageable, but ensure kids are aware of the surroundings due to the wildlife. It's best suited for families who appreciate nature observation and scenic walks rather than beach play. Reddit

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Untamed Charm of Police Bay

Police Bay is celebrated for its secluded and untouched nature, offering a stark contrast to more developed tourist spots on Mahé. Its location on the island's wild southern edge means visitors are treated to dramatic scenery, characterized by beautiful rocks on either side of the bay and the lush greenery of palm trees lining the path. This natural beauty is a significant draw for those seeking a peaceful escape and a chance to connect with nature. The experience is often described as finding a rare moment of peace on an island where many places can feel busy. InstagramReddit

However, the wildness of Police Bay also means visitors should be prepared. The waters are frequently rough with big waves, making it less ideal for swimming but potentially appealing to surfers. A notable caution is the possibility of encountering siphonophores, marine creatures related to the Portuguese man o' war, which can wash ashore and remain dangerous even when dead. Visitors are advised to watch their step and be aware of their surroundings. Reddit

Despite the lack of amenities, the natural allure of Police Bay is undeniable. The journey to the beach involves a short, flat 10-minute walk from the limited parking area, adding to the sense of discovery. For those who appreciate raw, natural beauty and a quiet retreat, Police Bay is a highly recommended destination, offering a unique and memorable experience on Mahé. Reddit

Wildlife Encounters at Police Bay

Police Bay is not just a beautiful beach; it's also a habitat for various fascinating wildlife. Birdwatchers might be delighted to spot fregate birds soaring overhead or the endemic Seychelles kestrel in its natural environment. These sightings add an extra layer of wonder to the visit, allowing travelers to experience the island's biodiversity firsthand. Reddit

Beyond the avian life, the shores of Police Bay can reveal smaller, equally intriguing creatures. Visitors have reported finding rockskippers, which are amphibious fish that can 'walk' on their fins and breathe air. Observing these unique animals in their natural habitat can be a truly captivating experience, offering a glimpse into the lesser-known aspects of Seychelles' marine ecosystems. Reddit
