"Our first time visiting @takamaka_rum. La Plaine St. André is the rum destillery of Takamaka Rum. It is located in the district of Au Cap on Mahé 🇸🇨. The property was previously known as Eco-Musée, dates back to 1792.

FREE ENTRY and FREE GUIDED distillery tours. The museum is open from Monday-Sunday from 10:30am to 4:30pm. We opted to go round on our own without the need of a guide as the Museum and property itself isn’t that big.

Rum tasting is available at a cost of SCR150 / $11 / €10.

The property is clean with good enough parking space. It would have been great to see more of the real process involved in making the rum. Pity you cannot tour inside the factory itself.

Once we were done with the tour we decided to have lunch in the garden. Some of the items were reasonably priced and some were not. The bartenders were so friendly and chatty.

I truly enjoyed the fresh Lime juice [ SCR50/ $4 / €3 ] and Cinnamon iced tea [ SCR60 / $4 / €3 ]. Both were reasonably priced and were very satisfying.

Unfortunately I cannot say the same for our lunch. The food was awful. 3 pieces of samosas at a cost of SCR120 / $7 / €8 was rather expensive. It would have been something else if it blew my hair away but it didn’t. The curried sweet patat filling tasted off. The samosas itself were oily and very greasy. No value for money at all.

The fish goujons with fries and tartar sauce [ SCR140 / $10 / €9 ] could have been better. The fries were packaged fries which was disappointing and we were served 3 teenie weenie pieces of fish. The fish batter was nice, however the fish itself had a very strong fishy aroma which was a bit overwhelming.

The Seasonal Vegan Buddha Bowl made with local produce, Tahini Maple dressing [ SCR140 / $10 / €9 ] was a waste of money. It was dry and the vegetables were cut to fit the mouth of a Buddha. They were massive!

The choice of music being aired in the open garden setting was so annoying. It was not pleasant at all and it as too loud. You literally had to shout across the table to be able to hold a conversation.

I would only come back to this place for their fresh juices, iced teas and cocktails."
