Reviews Summary

Mount Pimard Trail offers rewarding panoramic views but presents a challenging, steep hike, especially with recent access changes due to construction. Hikers praise the summit vistas as breathtaking, but caution about the intense heat, humidity, and slippery conditions when wet. Proper footwear and ample water are essential for this strenuous climb.

"Note: this trail is no longer easily accessible!
Start of the single trail has been destroyed by nearby construction work and there is now a very steep bank you can't get up. But we managed to get up through the trees to the right of where the trail should have started. Nice little hike that was the right level of challenge for us in this heat. Lots of ropes to help you up some of the steeper bits. Extremely hot at the top. 🥵"

"Difficult trail for a beginner, starts flat but gets steep and almost vertical very quickly. There are no markings but it's difficult to get lost on this one. Looks like it's open round the clock. I started by myself just before 7am and was back about 8:30am, it was just me and no-one else. There's a lot of foliage, it's very humid and no breeze. The top was very hot and sunny but the view was breathtaking and I was already breathless from the climb. But yeah, worth it. I'd recommend beginning early, wearing good walking shoes and bringing about 500ml of water."

Sujata Verma

"Cool little hike. First 10min straight up an easy wide path, then 15-20min a bit narrower in the forrest and a bit steeper. Sometime ropes are offered. Especially in this climate zone it gets sweaty, but not for a long time. On the top nothing special there, but a nice view, no shade. On the way back I took a little different way, ending up in a cute little bungalow for the rest in the shade which was not available at the top."

Navigating the Trail Access

Recent construction has unfortunately altered the traditional access to the Mount Pimard Trail. Hikers now report that the original start of the trail has been destroyed, necessitating a steeper climb through the trees to the right of the former entrance. Reddit This means the initial part of the hike might be more challenging than previously experienced. Despite these changes, the trail itself is described as generally easy to follow, even without explicit markings. Reddit

It's crucial to be aware of these access issues before you go. While some reviews mention finding a way up, it's advisable to be prepared for a more rugged start. The trail begins with a wide, uphill gravel road that leads to a clearing with a view and a gazebo, before the steep ascent truly begins. Reddit Always check recent local information if possible, or be ready to adapt your approach on the day.

The Ascent and Summit Experience

The hike up Mount Pimard is known for its steepness, quickly transitioning from a gentle incline to a near-vertical climb in sections. Ropes are strategically placed to assist hikers on these challenging parts, adding an element of adventure. Reddit+1 The humidity is high, and the climb can be strenuous, especially in the heat. Many hikers recommend starting early in the morning to mitigate the intense sun and humidity. Reddit

Upon reaching the summit, the reward is a truly breathtaking panoramic view. Despite the lack of shade at the top, the 360-degree vistas of the St. Lucian coastline and surrounding islands are widely praised as being 'worth the sweat.' Reddit+1 Some hikers have discovered a charming, shaded bungalow off the main path on the way down, offering a welcome respite. Reddit

Essential Gear and Preparation

Proper footwear is paramount for the Mount Pimard Trail. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes or hiking boots are non-negotiable due to the steep, rocky, and potentially slippery nature of the path, especially if it has rained. Reddit+1 Hydration is another critical factor; bringing at least 500ml of water per person is strongly advised, as the heat and humidity at the summit can be intense, and there's no shade. Reddit+1

Beyond shoes and water, consider packing a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the strong sun at the peak. While not always mentioned, insect repellent could be beneficial given the trail's passage through foliage. TikTok A small backpack to comfortably carry these essentials will enhance your hiking experience. Remember that the trail can be slippery when wet, so waiting for dry weather is a wise precaution.
