Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Transfiguration Monastery in Murom for its well-maintained grounds, impressive architecture, and significant relics, including those of Ilya Muromets. While some note a commercial aspect, the overall spiritual atmosphere and historical importance are highly valued. The surrounding industrial sites of Vyksa offer a unique contrast and insight into the region's heritage.

"The best between all the Murom monasteries. Churches in good conditions and a wide selection of plants and animals. Probably spring/summer is the best period for visit"

Alessandro Armentani

"Must visit!"

Андрей Евдокимов

"The monastery is definitely worth a visit, both for believers and tourists, although believers should keep in mind that this place isn't about saving the soul, but rather about business. Crowds of people strolling, the absence (as in other monasteries) of off-limits areas, the rather plump monks and Land Cruisers outside the service areas (what would monks be without Land Cruisers?), and even the opportunity to visit an underground temple with skulls and bones. Perhaps they've gone a bit overboard in their pursuit of profit. The monastery is beautifully appointed, and there's plenty to see, as I've already mentioned. But for believers, too, the place is significant—the relics of saints, famous icons, and the ringing of bells (though it seems imitation; they're just playing a recording, but it's beautiful)."
