What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the museum's impressive icon collection and detailed historical exhibits, particularly those on the merchant class. The temporary art exhibitions are also a highlight. However, the primary language barrier is a significant drawback for non-Russian speakers, and the potential for renovations affecting access to main exhibits should be considered.
"This is the main location of Murom's city museum and contains two historical exhibitions as well as a rotating art gallery. The first exhibition explores the history of Murom's merchant class and how they lived, while the second covers Murom's ancient and medieval history. The second exhibition includes a fantastic display of icons. The temporary art exhibitions are typically interesting, and the gift shop by the entrance (no ticket needed) is a good place for souvenirs. Note that all of the information in the museum is in Russian only, but I believe it is still worth seeing for foreign visitors."

"[10/3, 7:34 PM] Igor: A cheeky woman waits around the corner, counting down the last few days, her unstarched white shirt 👕 trailing behind her. Her jump rope is taut, it won't gather up her bones later, her washcloth is worn out in the corner, the tablecloth is ready for guests. A chest of the prepared dowry, a cart of matches with a box of candles.
[10/3, 7:36 PM] Igor: A cheeky woman waits for me around the corner, and it becomes clearer to me. Surprisingly, today the cheeky woman moved up a floor, a brick or a loaf of bread in her hand, and I'll deal with her later. In short, such a mischievous woman beckons with milk chocolate, but her teeth are so nasty, my bed will creak in the coffin. What color will the cradle be to protect me from rodents? In this world they are boring and there they are like an angel for bedbugs."

"The museum's main premises are currently closed for renovation, and some of its exhibits have been moved to a gallery. However, among the exhibits moved to the temporary space, the museum is displaying some very valuable ones! Furthermore, almost everything on display is original. We were very lucky with our guide: we were a true professional and passionate about her work, so the 40 minutes of her explanation in two small halls flew by like five. A nice bonus: before the tour, Ilya Muromets greeted us with a welcome speech, and we were also treated to Murom kalach (very tasty👍)."
