"Lenin square. If you find one by the very name in any provincial town in Russia it means that the square would be the biggest one in town and the most central one too. That's why nothing is wrong with Lenin Square in Chita. It has all above characteristics mentioned.
Plus it divides the main street of the Transbaikal capital approximately in halve and it has a monument of the Soviet state founder . You can find the governor administration building on the Northern side of the square(just behind impressive figure of Lenin) and a Stalin-era style building on the Southern side which belongs to the 29th army deployed on a regular basis in this region.
On the Western side you can see a very fancy wooden post office and a town mayor office attached to a local Court House , followed across a street by a cinema "Homeland" that doesn't show any movies now because its premises are fully leased to some commercial companies selling at the time of my writing furcoats, jackets and even food staff produced in Belarus. Why do they have to import more expensive sausages from a far away place instead of enjoying the meat products of local companies is a complete mystery to me."
