"The Praia de Matosinhos is a beautiful, vast sandy beach near Porto, popular for sunbathing, surfing, and beach sports. It lies along a continuous coastline attracting many visitors seeking relaxation or active water sports. The beach is clean with soft golden sand, though it is less scenic than other Portuguese beaches due to the nearby port and industrial areas. Strong winds and sizeable waves make it ideal for surfers, supported by local surf schools. At the southern edge stands the historic Castelo do Queijo fort, a charming site with great views and affordable entry. The beach's lively atmosphere is complemented by numerous excellent seafood restaurants and a vibrant promenade lined with cafes and bars. It's easily accessible by metro and perfect for a half-day exploration filled with culture, nature, and gastronomy"

"Lovely beach with a wide expanse for the sun worshipers.

Thete was a red flag flying and an official looking sign saying no bathing. There were however lifeguards on duty.

It appears that officially the water quality does not meet the approved standards but people are allowed to use it nevertheless. That is my interpretation of what I observed.

There is a municipal drsin which empties into the sea nearby."
