"Forego all the restaurants for a shop and a meal at the local market, unlike the main market in Funchal which is expensive, in this local market much of the fruit is cheaper than in stores and the small restaurant/café serves tasty dishes of the day at very affordable prices. Worth a stop"

"The market itself was partly closed, only a few stands open on a Wednesday. Better to avoid eating on the corner of the market at Cha D'ouro - the dish of the day is 6 eur and is very poorly cooked, served with a lot of rice and a very small salad. They charge 2,5 eur for a glass of the worst vinho verde that costs 1, 5 eur a bottle. You're much better off eating a prego sandwich in a normal snack bar."
