What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Playa Santa Clara is a beautiful, peaceful beach often described as a hidden gem, particularly praised for its calm, clear waters and family-friendly atmosphere. Visitors enjoy the option of beachfront cabins and dining with ocean views. However, some have noted issues with local service and the cleanliness of the immediate swimming areas due to fishing activities.
"Small beautiful beach that contains a popular restaurant with small hotel in the form of cabins. This is ideal for people who want to enjoy a beach with the option of food and huts with seats and tables directly on the sand.
It is not a secluded beach devoid of life. Along your walk on the sand you will pass by the restaurant, huts and modern residences.
One of the best things you can do is stay overnight in one of the cabins. They are directly on the sand. The hotel has security guards at night. That could explain why my night time walks have felt safe even when wondering into the dark areas of the beach.
All my times here have been very pleasant without any incidences. Most of the visitors are families and not rowdy teenagers.
The parking lots are part of the restaurant. But don't feel obligated to buy anything there. Simply walk through the facilities and onto the sand."

"Beautiful, clean beach. The water was clear even with a strong riptide, which they say usually only happens once a year. It was empty on a Monday. We were not charged to enter or park. We did tip the “bien cuidado” on the way out."

The Two Playa Santa Claras: Panama vs. Yucatan
Conversely, Playa Santa Clara in Yucatan, Mexico, is part of the emerging Riviera Yucateca. This area is attracting attention for real estate investment and development, promising proximity to beautiful beaches and potential for property value growth. It's a different kind of destination, geared more towards investment and new coastal living.
When planning your visit or investment, always confirm which Playa Santa Clara you are referring to to ensure you have the right expectations and information. Both offer unique appeals, but they cater to different interests.
Accommodation and Dining Experiences
The dining scene is dominated by a popular restaurant that is integral to the beach experience. This establishment offers seating directly on the sand, allowing visitors to enjoy meals with their feet in the sand. While the food, particularly seafood like shrimp and ceviche, is generally well-regarded, some visitors have noted that prices can be higher than at other locations. It's also worth noting that sometimes there's an expectation to order from the restaurant if you utilize their parking facilities.
For those seeking a more resort-like experience, nearby areas like Las Veraneras offer combined beach and pool access, along with ranchos for rent, providing a different, though related, coastal experience close to Playa Santa Clara.
Navigating Beach Conditions and Local Etiquette
Local etiquette and interactions are worth noting. While many visitors have pleasant experiences, some have reported instances of rudeness from locals, particularly concerning parking and dining expectations. It's advisable to approach interactions with politeness and understanding. Some visitors also mention that fishermen may clean their catch near swimming areas, which can be a point of concern for some.
Despite these minor points, the overall sentiment is positive, with many describing it as a 'beautiful hidden gem' and a 'favorite beach.' The availability of amenities like showers and toilets adds to the convenience for day-trippers.
