Playa Istmito offers a convenient town beach experience with warm, calm waters suitable for wading and relaxing. While the iconic 'Bocas del Toro' sign is a popular photo spot, visitors should be aware that beach cleanliness can vary significantly. Some appreciate the nearby recreational facilities, while others are disappointed by litter.
"When we visited the beach there was no annoying garbage to be seen - in contrast to many other beaches we have seen during our holidays. We enjoyed the water, which was strikingly warm - but for snorkeling it was not the right place because of the stirred-up sandy soil."

"Cool spot to wade in the water, SUP or fish."

"It is a beach. No dispute there. However, the sole attraction to this SPECIFIC piece of beach compared to any other is the 'Bocas del Toro' sign. Which is why I walked down here, I wanted a picture of the sign and I was bored.
Fair warning, though - if you are walking up the beach from Bocas Town it's easy to cruise right past the sign. It's up by the road so if you're looking at the surf you'll likely miss it.
Also, if you are walking from Bocas Town, there is beach access if you turn to the right when you reach the cementario. It isn't marked or obvious, I only found it when I was coming BACK because I walked until I ran out of beach (tide was pretty high)"
